Terrific Thomastown United overcame newly reformed St Canices FC in the last 16 of the Kilkenny and District league Pat Maher Shield at United Park last Sunday. The visitors had beaten Castlewarren FC 2-1 to reach the last sixteen. Thomastown United welcomed St Canices FC to United Park having already beaten Callen United at their home venue 6-1 in the last 32 encounters. The premier division side was far the stronger side on the day and two goals from Jack O’ Byrne and one each for Robert Skehan and Bobby Joe Walsh saw Thomastown progress into the quarter-finals of the competition.

Thomastown United, last year’s beaten finalists will have home advantage when they meet Evergreen FC at United Park. The other quarter-finals draw are Freebooters B v Ormonde Villa, Newpark United v Fort Rangers, and Freebooters A v Bridge United.
