Carlow Intermediate Camogie had a convincing win over Tipperary in John Lockes Park, Callan, Kilkenny.
Group one Carlow took on group 3 Tipperary in John Locke Park, Callan, last Saturday in the intermediate relegation Final.
An early goal from Ciara Kavanagh with just about with just four minutes gone on the clock inspired Carlow on their way and with an on-form Kate Nolan and with both Caoimhe Cody and Ciara Quirke on the score sheet, they were well worth their lead of 1-14 to 0-4 at the halftime whistle.
Like their opponents in the first half, Tipperary scored an early goal of their own early in the second half. Tipperary continued their fightback scoring 1-3 to Carlow’s 0-3 at the water break.
Trailing 1-17 to 1-07 the determined Premier county began to reduce Carlow’s early advantage. But a now confident Carlow continued to press on and a goal courtesy of Kate Nolan ten minutes to play. Undeterred, Tipperary continued to battle and with great spirit had scored two late goals to reduce Carlow’s lead to five points. But Carlow had the damage done in the first half and held out for a five-point win.
Final score in Callan, Carlow 2-19 to Tipperary 3-11. Carlow will be playing intermediate camogie once more in 2022 while the Premier county will be relegated to the Premier Junior Championship for 2022
